Who Are the Young Adults?
by Dori Moerer
Have you heard of the Mount Olive Young Adults group?
Ever wondered what this group is all about?
Well, the Mount Olive Young Adults group was organized
to bring together singles and couples in their 20’s
and 30’s at Mount Olive. My husband John and I
wanted to create a group for young adults because it
seemed as if this age group didn’t have many ways
to get connected with others at Mount Olive. Often we
saw young adults attend Mount Olive a few times but
then disappear forever, which was so frustrating to
us.
After years of just talking about this idea together,
we finally started the Young Adults group in the summer
of 2005 with just a handful of interested folks and
a couple of ideas. Now, the Young Adults group is over
20 members strong (and growing!), with about 2 events
per month. The Young Adults do social events (game nights,
camping trips, sporting events), service events (Habitat
for Humanity workday, serving food at OASIS), and Bible
studies (right now we’re studying world religions).
The Young Adults is a fun and flexible group. We regularly
have new people joining us for events, and members are
always welcome to bring friends, too. For many members,
the Young Adults group has become a great way to develop
new Christian friendships. Attendance at every event
is not at all necessary to be a part of this group—with
everyone’s busy schedules, people come to events
when they can. It’s a lot of fun!
So, are you a young adult in your 20’s or 30’s?
Or maybe you know someone who would be interested in
learning more about or joining our group? If so, please
see our Young Adults bulletin board in the main hallway
at Mount Olive and pick up a schedule of events or a
Young Adults brochure to find out more. Or e-mail me
anytime for more information (dori@moerer.net) or to
join the Young Adults e-mail list. I’d love to
hear from you!
The Mount Olive Young Adults group was organized
to reach out to and connect people in our 20’s
and 30’s at Mt. Olive. Feel free to come to any
event, and bring a friend! E-mail Dori Moerer (dori@moerer.net)
if you have any questions.
