Reach ~ Care ~ Build

In Small Groups

A small group can come in a variety of shapes and sizes but in general is a group of people gathered for a similar purpose and goal. Typically associated with Bible Study a group can also take on other activities like fellowship or action items. By this definition a choir, board, LWML group, support group or many others things may come under the title of small group.

What we are doing at Mount Olive is creating a common foundation for all small groups to build on and then become their own unique entities under one mission. We use the Reach ~ Care ~ Build model as the foundation for all small groups. Using each of these action items from our mission statement we create unity and diversity in all small group (and any activity) of Mount Olive. Reach ~ Care ~ Build is a way of framing our individual and group activities and goals.

Reach

The focus of this action is on people outside of our church or who are not involved in church activities. It involves everyday evangelism and the willingness to invite others to be a part of the small group. Reach can also involve mission projects; activities that help Mount Olive and the community

Care

The focus of this action is on the care of the people in the immediate group. It involves building trust and the willingness to be open with others and allowing them to get to know you as you get to know them. As trust is built people will share of their lives and others will be able to help and encourage.

Build

This action focuses on God’s Word and how it builds us up and how through us it can build others up. Bible Study, worship, and prayer are the main focus of this action. We are all learners and teachers of God’s Word.
